Introduction

Picky ("we", "our" or "the app") respects your privacy. This policy describes how Picky handles your data when you use our mobile application.

Data We Collect

Data Stored Locally on Your Device

Picky stores the following data exclusively on your device via AsyncStorage:

  • Usage statistics: number of photos processed, space freed, photos deleted/kept/favorited
  • Usage sessions: date and time of session start/end, activities per session
  • Progress and goals: consecutive days of use, daily goals, level progress
  • App preferences: haptic feedback and notification settings
  • Processed photo list: IDs of photos you've already viewed (to avoid duplicates)
  • Album progress: current position in each photo album

Photo Library Access

Picky requires access to your photo library to:

  • Display your photos and videos
  • Delete photos/videos you choose to remove
  • Create and add photos to the "Picky Favorites" album in your camera roll

Important: Picky NEVER uploads, transfers, or shares your photos with external servers. All operations happen locally on your device.

Required Permissions

  • Photo Library (iOS: NSPhotoLibraryUsageDescription): to access and manage your photos
  • Add to Photo Library (iOS: NSPhotoLibraryAddUsageDescription): to save photos to Picky Favorites
  • Notifications (iOS: NSUserNotificationsUsageDescription): to send you gentle reminders (optional)
  • Vibration: for haptic feedback during app use

Analytics and Usage Data

Picky uses PostHog, a third-party analytics service, to help us understand how users interact with the app and improve our service.

What we collect:

  • Anonymous user ID (randomly generated, not linked to your personal identity)
  • App interactions: features used, buttons tapped, screens viewed
  • Session information: app opens, session duration
  • Usage statistics: photos processed, features accessed
  • Technical data: app crashes, performance metrics

Important:

  • This data is anonymized and cannot be used to identify you personally
  • We do NOT collect: your name, email, phone number, location, or any personal information
  • We do NOT upload or access your photos
  • Data is collected solely for improving app functionality and user experience
  • Analytics data is stored on PostHog's EU servers (GDPR compliant)

How We Use Your Data

All data is used exclusively to:

  • Provide core app functionality (photo cleanup, statistics, favorites)
  • Track your progress and personal statistics
  • Improve your user experience
  • Send you reminders (only if you enable notifications)

Data Sharing

Picky does NOT share, sell, or transfer your personal data or photos to third parties.

Analytics Service: We use PostHog (hosted in the EU) for anonymous usage analytics to improve the app. This data:

  • Is anonymized and not linked to your identity
  • Does NOT include your photos or personal information
  • Is used solely for app improvement purposes
  • Complies with GDPR regulations

The only exception for sharing is if you choose to manually share your results via the app's native sharing feature.

Data Retention

Data is retained on your device until:

  • You uninstall the app
  • You use the "Reset All Statistics" feature in settings
  • You request data deletion through settings

Security

Since all data is stored locally on your device, security depends on your device's security measures (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID, etc.).

Children's Privacy

Picky is not designed for children under 13 years old. We do not knowingly collect data from minors under 13.

User Rights (GDPR)

If you are in the European Union, you have the right to:

  • Access: all your data is visible in the app (Statistics section)
  • Deletion: use "Reset All Statistics" in Settings or uninstall the app
  • Portability: data is stored locally on your device
  • Complete deletion request: contact us via the app in Settings → Privacy and Security → Data Deletion Request

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy occasionally. We will notify you of any significant changes through the app.
